Northen Mali has recently been taken over by militant Islamic groups. Following an urgent plea from the desperate Malian government, the government in France agreed to send troops to help prevent the further spead southward of the violent groups. The French government has had a history of helping states that were previous colonies., Mali is just one example. Without the support from France, Malian forces would not have stood long against the militant groups.
The fact that France is willing to carefully help out the state of Mali impresses me. However, I am interested to see just how involved they become with the issue. At the moment, they are not overly involved with the operation, but that may eventually change. I wonder how long French troops will remain in Mali sense as the article says, it will take an extreme length of time to completely push the militant groups out of the country.
This event relates to the political aspects of France because it involves France's involvement in another state that is in deep conflict. The French government has powerful decisions to make when it comes to how they will be involved in Mali and for how long. The decisions that rest in the hands of the French government could majorly affect the outcome of the conflict in Mali.
